After being hit in the side of knee followed by my foot being stepped on by a calf, I admitted that I needed some kind of rehab. I’ve heard so many great things about Chinese medicine and I am new to Calgary, so I started google searching Chinese medicine doctors and came across Dr. Han’s website. His ideas and morals were completely in sync with mine, so I was very excited when I got a reply from him. His prices far beat out anyone else in the city and in my opinion he was worth so much more as he teaches this medicine to others! I went to him for about 6 weeks and knee and foot improved SIGNIFICANTLY. He was worried at the beginning that I had waited too long before finding treatment (2 months of bad injury as I thought it would just “heal on its own”), but luckily enough his treatment healed me and I had gotten there just in time. I had acupuncture treatment each time which was the first time for me. It was a very different experience at first, but it helped me so much. It is a very relaxing treatment and Dr. Han takes such good care of each patient. He answers any and every question you ask and is really interested in the person’s overall health and not just the injury/issue at hand. I truly recommend him to anyone and everyone as Chinese medicine can heal so many things and improve overall health. Thank you so much Dr. Han, I appreciate everything and am so glad I can run/hike again!

We were lucky to hear of Dr. Han from a friend. The first time we experienced his amazing treatment was for my son’s sore throat. He gets sore throats often and usually takes at least a week to recover with antibiotics. This time, I took him to see Dr. Han who just pricked his index finger (not painful at all) and squeezed a couple of drops of blood out, and then his throat was fine the next day!

The second visit was for my son’s low back pain.  Just by palpating, Dr. Han told us that the injury was there for at least two years. It was unbelievable! My son hurt his tailbone playing basketball 2 years ago and our family doctor said that the x-ray shows the injury, but offered no treatment.  I could not believe that just by touching him Dr. Han could detect the old injury even after 2 years and after three treatments the pain was gone!

Then a few days ago, my son’s left ear got infected from swim training every day.  It was really painful and swollen to the point that he could not even open his mouth. Our family doctor prescribed 10 days of antibiotics, but my son didn't want to take them and insisted upon seeing Dr. Han again.  Dr. Han did some acupuncture around the ear and used a moxibustion stick to “clear the fire,” as he said, from my son's ear.  Thirty minutes later, he could open his mouth and after two more treatments, he was able to start swimming again.

My son’s ambition is to study medicine at Harvard (influenced by his father who is an MD), but now he is very interested in also studying Traditional Chinese Medicine so that he can also help patients like Dr. Han.

My name is Betty Millan and I would like to tell you about my experience with Dr. Han.  Back in September 2011, I was in a lot of pain due to a torn rotator cuff which I injured back in April 2011 while shovelling wet heavy snow.  My family doctor sent me for an ultra-sound and then told me that I had a torn rotator cuff.  He referred me to an orthopedic surgeon for surgery to repair this tear.

By September I still had not heard anything from the surgeon and the shoulder was causing me constant pain and I was unable to lift my arm.  It was literally freezing up as I wasn’t using it properly due to the pain.  A friend told me about the College and how she had been going for acupuncture there for a few years with very good results.  I phoned and made an appointment, as at this point felt I had nothing to lose by trying it.  It was the best phone call I have made as I have been going regularly since. I started out at once a week, but when I asked how I would know when I was better one of the students told me that when it didn’t hurt any more then it was better.  I then  changed to twice a week and have been going regularly and I now am able to lift my arm over my head.  Although there is still a little pain, the improvement has been remarkable and the wonderful thing is I won’t need surgery.   I still haven’t received a call from the surgeon, so if I had not been told about this College I probably would still be in a lot of pain and probably wouldn’t have the full use of my right arm.

Thank you Dr. Han and all the students that have been helping me with this treatment. This is so much better than surgery and I would highly recommend acupuncture to anyone that is having problems that normally require surgery or extensive physiotherapy. This is in my opinion a far better option.

My daughter was in a car accident 3 years ago. She was diagnosed with Costochondritis. (Muscles torn around the heart) due to the seatbelt. She did several visits to the family Doctor who indicated this would pass. We also spent time in the hospital for this. We were told that nothing could be done for her and this would be a lifetime of dealing with it. Of course she was proscribed medicine for the pain. This was a steroid medication, we all know what steroids can do to us internally. I was reluctant in getting it. My daughter was in so much pain I couldn’t handle seeing her like that so I filled the prescription. As days went by, the pain increased to the point she could not sleep at night. I spoke with Dr Han in regards to her consistent pain. He informed me that it may caused by the overuse of the ice and he could help her. With just one treatment of acupuncture and 2 bottles of herbal medicine my daughter has not had any pain in almost a year now. We are so thankful to Dr. Han and his abilities in the herbal medicine and acupuncture. I believe that my daughter would still be suffering today if it wasn’t for his help. Thank you Dr. Han.

I learned about Chinese Traditional Medicine almost 40 years ago in June 1972. Since then I have seen a Chinese TCM doctor almost as much as the family doctor. I sought out Doctor Han following an introduction by a friend. My 84 year old mother was about to lose her mobility entirely due to weak and suddenly very painful legs. As usual the emergency hit on a Saturday morning and I knew there was no way hospital emergency could do much for her except give her some painkillers. Desperate, I asked my friend to call Dr. Han and see if by some miracle he could see my mother within a few hours. I was thrilled when I heard that Dr. Han gave us an appt for noon time that very same day. After a 45 minute accupuncture treatment that included warming lamps, my mother got up from the massage table and walked out to the car with a huge smile on her face. The pain was lessoned considerably and she could walk comfortably. Since that day in mid June this year, Dr. Han has been treating my mother regularly once a week and during July and August when he was not too busy teaching, he treated my mother's poor circulation exacerbated by 18 years of damage to her kidneys by lithium carbonate that is used to treat her bi-polar disorder. When Dr. Han first saw my mother, her feet were almost all blue as much old blood seemed to have collected in her veins there and was not circulating. After about 3 months of treatment, there is considerable improvement in the colour of her feet. It is obvious that her blood is circulating through her extremities much better now. Dr. Han also prescribed a herbal medicine drink once a day and a herbal foot bath for my mother's feet and legs. After following this treatment virtually daily for the past 5 months, I am very satisfied with the improvement in my mother's health. Dr. Han saved her mobility and she now can walk without her cane at home. Great! I wish that I had been able to persuade my mother to accept Chinese TCM much earlier but she had to make up her mind by herself. Now she looks forward to her treatment each week and can't wait to get in the car and go! Dr. Han is very sensitive, observant and gentle with senior patients. I highly recommend him to anyone who would like to see their parents in more comfort during their golden years and old age.

For the last few years my wife and I have visited many doctors in both Canada and Japan. The doctors in Canada didn't really have a clue what was wrong and they only suggested waiting and taking some medicine, which proved ineffective. The doctors in Japan did more and found 2 problems, factor 12 deficiencies and protein S deficiency. Their recommended treatment of Heparin had severe and frightful side effects. We also went to a highly recommended TCM doctor that has been practicing in Calgary for many years and the results were unimpressive and his lack of communication skills troublesome. Finally our friends recommended we see Dr. Han. After the first visit we were impressed with his candor and his communication skills. He is always willing to listen and provide advice. The best part however is seeing the results. My wife started to respond to treatment much sooner than either of us had anticipated. The regiment of traditional Chinese herbs and acupuncture has made huge differences where others have failed. Two major improvements were in regards to her period. Usually she experienced an unreal amount of pain and could barely stand, now there is no pain at all. Also the amount of blood and clots produced has gone from unbelievable to normal. Her general condition has improved and she no longer has freezing cold feet. The ultimate test of the treatment is still pending and I'll provide an update in the future.

I first went to meet Dr. Han in January 2011.  I had various health concerns that I expressed to him, ie. hormonal issues, depression, Restless Leg Syndrome to name a few.  He explained the philosophy behind Traditional Chinese Medicine and made certain that I understood the process and the idea of getting to the root of my issues. 

Masking symptoms is not how TCM works.  I began immediately with an acupuncture session and Chinese herbs.  I continued to visit Dr. Han for a few months for acupuncture treatments and various herbs (to be taken orally, in teas or as herbal foot soaks).  I believe that the treatments helped me to feel calmer almost immediately. 

Over the 3-4 month period that I began with Dr. Han my circulation improved noticeably, I felt much calmer and seemed to be able to handle stressful situations more easily.  My RLS  did not affect my sleep any longer, and therefore I was sleeping much better.  

As I improved, I slowly weaned off of the acupuncture treatments.  I was able to get through the summer without Dr. Han’s assistance.  This September I went back to visit Dr. Han to continue with his help in managing all of my concerns.  Having said that, though, my RLS was truly the only thing I was still needing to work at. 

I was able to wean myself off of anti-depressants in August and feel as “balanced” physically and emotionally as I have felt in a number of years.  Thank you, Dr. Han!  You have become an integral part of my health care maintenance.

I had no experience or knowledge of any alternative medicine. As a health care worker I tended to follow Western treatment protocols, until I found myself on a 6 month long wait list to seek treatment at the Fertility Clinic. My cycle was abnormally short, and my ovulation dates were occurring late in my cycle. I had also suffered from increasingly debilitating menstrual pain. Anxious to not delay starting a family, and preferring to not need hormonal therapy to regulate my cycle, I started to seek out alternatives. A friend and member of the Chinese community told me that Dr. Han was the one to see!

I was immediately comforted by his soft spoken, calm nature. He assessed me and my random symptoms like cold feet, night sweats and painful periods and diagnosed me with a cold uterus. After 5 months of acupuncture sessions and Chinese herbs, my cycle normalized. Eventually the fertility clinic confirmed my endometriosis and slowing fertility due to my age but was pleased that my cycle had normalized. My husband also received abnormal test results and we were advised our best chances would be IVF. He saw Dr. Han for 3 months of treatments and after this time, was retested and his results improved. That month we also became pregnant naturally and are awaiting the arrival of our son. We can't wait to bring him to meet the wonderful Dr. Han!

At the end of October, 2015 I returned home in Canmore after a two-month lecture tour in SE Asia. I immediately collapsed and was rushed to the hospital unconscious.  I remained unconscious and on life support for four days and was given only a 20% chance to survive.  I had contracted double pneumonia, suffered a mild heart attack and had gone into a diabetic coma.

After 4 days, I woke up and had survived.  I now began the long road to recovery.  The doctors said I was now suffering from congestive heart failure which resulted in a general lack of vitality, weakness of movement, persistent coughing, bloating due to the heart’s inability to pump out the liquids, and inability to walk.  Under all sorts of medication, I still felt miserable and was making very little progress recovering after six months.   In fact, in many ways I felt more miserable than when I was in the hospital.   It became apparent to me that the western medical protocol practiced by the doctors would not cure me, but only made me feel sicker.

On the urgings of friends and family members, I sought out a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  It was like searching for a needle in a haystack on the internet, but I finally narrowed the choice down to two TCM practitioners in Calgary.  I based my choice on their training profile in China.   I first went to see Dr. Han.  He said he needed three months to help me solve my health problems through acupuncture and herbal remedies.  I never got to see the second practitioner on my list because after my first treatment with Dr. Han, I knew intuitively that I had chosen the right doctor.

From May through August, Dr. Han administered two acupuncture sessions per week and mixed special herbal teas for me to drink daily.  The treatment was designed to restore my QI which had been severely depleted during the illness. 

The result of this treatment has been next to miraculous.   A dying man has come alive again! Today, the congestive heart failure condition is gone.  I can now climb up and down steps with ease and carry out normal household and business activities.  The coughing stopped after about one month into the treatment, which was a relief after coughing for seven months.  The bloating/water accumulation in the body and especially the lungs has gone, and I can truly say that I am back to normal or better before I got sick.

For this restoration of my health, I am truly grateful to Dr. Han, whose skill and knowledge have proven to be like no other TCM or western medical doctor!
